Founded by Rev. Dr. Cushing Eells
Rooted in the town, still standing on Main Street.
Plymouth Congregational Church was founded in 1872 by the Rev. Dr. Cushing Eells, whose name is carried today by Colfax's Eells Park, once the site of the church's first building. More than a century and a half later, Plymouth is still Colfax's oldest congregation — and the only church left standing on Main Street itself.
The building has weathered floods, decades, and a changing town, the way the wheat fields around it weather every season. What hasn't changed is the reason people keep walking through the door: a small, honest community that would rather ask good questions together than insist on a single answer.

Above the entry, three shapes are set into the wall of the sanctuary itself — a hand, a cross, and a dove. They're the first thing most people ask about, and the simplest summary we have of what happens inside.
The Open Hand
Welcome and blessing — a hand held open rather than closed, offered to whoever walks through the door.
The Cross
Faith in Christ, held plainly — set with small panes of color, the one bit of stained glass on an otherwise quiet facade.
The Dove
The Spirit at work in the congregation — the same descending flame-and-wing form used across Christian tradition.

Worship in the Chapel
The congregation currently gathers in the chapel downstairs while we work toward reopening the main sanctuary — a smaller room, but a full congregation's worth of welcome.

A Music Ministry Taking Shape
We're expanding music in worship and building a presence online, so that Colfax — and family further away — can stay connected to Plymouth.
